A Day in Enchanting Las Cruces
Las Cruces is the second largest city in the enchanting state of New Mexico. Literally meaning “The Crosses” in Spanish Las Cruces sits in the hot New Mexican desert and is only about an hour drive to the Mexican boarder.
Las Cruces is home to New Mexico State University, a university that specializes in agriculture and farming. More information on NMSU can be seen on the school’s website at, nmsu.edu.
My Day in Las Cruces started with an expedition to White Sands National Monument located just East of Las Cruces. The historic White Sands is known for its endless dunes of white sand due to the gypsum and calcium sulfate in the sand as opposed to traditionally colored sand which contains quartz.
Being so close to the Mexican boarder there is plenty of Mexican and New Mexican culture in Las Cruces. One of the best ways to spend an evening in Las Cruces is by visiting some of the local New Mexican restaurants where you will probably be asked “Red or Green” upon your order. Don’t worry, they’re just talking about chili sauce, my favorite answer is “Christmas please.”
If you are in search of a city full of Hispanic culture, hot days, and cool nights year-round then Las Cruces is the place for you. Please visit the local chamber of commerce’s website, www.lascruces.org for more information on this enchanting city.
